One Leicester
One Leicester has the ultimate goal to promote equality, diversity, inclusion and eliminate prejudice, discrimination and exclusion in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
To achieve this aim we currently host two annual community festivals that recognise and celebrate all aspects of creating community cohesion, crime prevention and inter-communal respect.
Managed by Second Genesis, in partnership with the African Heritage Alliance (AHA), One Leicester blends the need to gain useful information, community togetherness and diverse local entertainment together, to produce festivals and events that educate, enlighten and entertain our attendees. By forming positive alliances with local projects and groups, we help to share information and good practice for the benefit of us all and the communities we serve.
We will be striving to get bigger and better every year, but we will rely on your corporate sponsorship and generous donations to help make these special awareness raising, community festivals happen
Our events all aim to use the performing arts, awareness raising stalls/events and community leadership to help promote:
1. community cohesion and mutual inter-communal respect.
2. improved community relations with statutory/voluntary agencies and enterprise.
3. anti-extremism, anti-hate crime and anti-terrorism.
4. community safety / development and crime prevention.
5. inter-communal collaboration, communication and multi-agency / community joint working.
6. overcoming barriers to diversity and increasing community involvement / engagement.
7. Leicester's proud historical heritage of resistance to all forms of extremism, prejudice and discrimination.

The Leicester peace & love festival developed out of the Leicester peace & love concert that was originally created and hosted in 2006 to address concerns of possible knife, gun and gang crime developing in Leicester and the communal disunity it would create.
This largely preventative event aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of gun, knife and gang crimes (particularly with young people) so that they would not be drawn into anti-social and/or criminal behaviour and activities.

Africa Fest is the first charitable, annual African festival in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. Created in 2023, the festival seeks to develop stronger relations between all community groups, as they will gain greater understanding about continental and heritage African culture, lifestyle and entertainment, whilst developing a balanced perspective of Africa and Africans - that is not influenced by negative and damaging historical distortions and inaccuracies.
